Carlton vs. Richmond

Richmond have won 11 straight against Carlton with 10 of those wins coming by 1-39 points. Over the last 12 months 13 of Carlton’s 14 defeats were by 1-39 margins. I would back Carlton +39.5 at 1.18 (bet365). Those looking for more risk should consider Richmond 1-39 at 2.10 (Sportsbet).

Geelong vs. Essendon

Geelong went 5-1 at the MCG last season while Essendon went 2-3 at The ‘G, with both wins coming against the 17th placed Collingwood. Geelong have won 11 of the last 14 games against Essendon, including the last three meetings by 32+ points. Geelong have gone 16-3 when installed as the favourite over the last 12 months while Essendon went 4-10 when installed as the underdog. I would back Geelong in the head-to-head at 1.68 (bet365).

GWS vs. Sydney

GWS and Sydney each only lost one game by 40+ points lasts season and two of their three meetings last year were settled by 2 points or less. Both sides are missing a bit of firepower for this game, which should reduce the chance of a blowout. GWS will be without the suspended Toby Greene while Sydney will be without the injured Tom Papley. I would back ‘Either Team by 39 or Less’ in the Tri Bet 39.5 market at 1.17 (Sportsbet). Those looking for more risk should consider Sydney 1-39 at 2.25 (Sportsbet) because I expect Greene’s absence will hurt GWS more than Papley’s absence for Sydney.

Brisbane vs. Port Adelaide

Brisbane have gone 18-3 at the Gabba over the last two seasons and they have won each of their last four home games when installed as the favourite against Port Adelaide. Despite the absence of Eric Hipwood, I would back Brisbane in the head-to-head at 1.51 (Picklebet).
